Safety and Management of the

Operational safety is the top priority for Flug-Hafen-Saarland GmbH and, in case of doubt, takes precedence over economic, ecological, operational, or social interests. Our goal is to continuously develop our strategies, processes, and procedures so that the highest possible safety standards can be guaranteed at Saarbrücken Airport at all times. To this end, the company is committed to providing sufficient and appropriate resources. Managers and employees have an active responsibility to participate in the safety management system (SMS).

We specifically expect managers and process owners to

  • they continuously promote participation in the SMS and thus also the safety policy to all employees, and they demonstrably demonstrate their participation in the SMS,
  • ensure that operational activities are always safety-driven,
  • identify potential hazards at an early stage, assess possible risks, develop, implement, and regularly review measures to mitigate risks, and submit the relevant documentation to the SMS,
  • all relevant laws and applicable standards are complied with,
  • sufficient and appropriate resources are provided in terms of quality and quantity,
  • Security objectives, performance standards, and appropriate metrics are established and communicated.
  • Events and occurrences that must be reported in accordance with EU Regulation No. 376/2014 are reported to the SMS in a timely manner.
All employees and airport users are informed about the safety management system, have received training appropriate to their tasks, and always observe operational safety in their activities. To this end, and to create a transparent safety culture, we want to raise the safety awareness of all employees at Saarbrücken Airport and have set up a voluntary reporting system for this purpose. We encourage all airport users to report any incidents, hazards, or safety concerns they observe to the SMS. There are various options available for submitting a safety report.
Reports to the SMS do not generally result in disciplinary measures against the reporting person and can also be submitted anonymously – exceptions to this may apply in the case of criminal acts, gross negligence, or intent on the part of the reporting person.

The services of third parties and their operational safety requirements must at least meet our operational safety standards. Participation in the SMS, in particular the voluntary reporting system of Flug-Hafen-Saarland GmbH, is expressly desired in this regard.
